Danny John-Jules: 'My conscience is clear’ Strictly star slams Amy Dowden bullying claims

A source claimed to The Sun: “Amy’s been crying constantly at the hands of Danny.

“He gets very angry in the training room and he swears and shouts at her a lot.”

But today, Strictly Come Dancing 2018 contestant Danny John-Jules, 58, hit back at those allegations on Twitter.

He wrote: “My conscience has never been clearer."

Taking aim at the Sun who published the allegations Danny wrote: “I take great pride being hunted down by Khaki Wearing, Doberman-holding, Tobacco-chewing, cross-eyed, cousin-producing, banjo-playing, chair-rocking, night-riding, sheet-wearing, pointy-hatted, illiterate, hacks who’s truth is driven by hate."

The Red Dwarf star also retweeted a series of messages in his support from many of his 61,000 followers.

One user wrote: “My first though was it's all b******t. Danny those with a IQ above 20 know this is b******s. It's just a slow news day.”(sic)

A second commented: “There's a lot of love for Danny John-Jules in our house; probably because we are also big fans of honesty, integrity and the truth.”

A third commented: “I met him 2 years ago with my children and he was a lovely man. He gave my daughter his autograph and it’s one of her prize possessions.”

Danny’s tweet comes after it was explained he and Amy had a "minor" disagreement in training earlier this week.

A Strictly production source clarified what had happened to “Danny and Amy have had a tough week trying to master their difficult Samba.

“They had a minor disagreement earlier this week but were quickly back into rehearsals that same day and had a good rehearsal yesterday.

“They’re excited to perform together tomorrow night.”

Earlier this week, Danny spoke out on his reasons why he doesn’t mingle with his co-stars away from the show.

He previously told The Sun he hasn’t been out with his fellow cast members, describing himself as being on a “different level”.

Danny said: “We came here to be tested, not to prance up and down like some old luvvie, drinking martinis and having the odd knees-up.”

Addressing the comments on ITV show Lorraine, he told the host: “Well I’m 58, we finish at 10 O'clock at night, where else am I gonna go?"

Amy added: “He’s always saying, ‘I can’t wait to get home and have a bath’.”

Danny continued: “I can’t wait to get home because you know, you put your head on the pillow and before you know it you’re up again.”

Last week, Danny and Amy performed the Quickstep to Freedom by Pharrell Williams, scoring 22 out of 40 points.

This weekend, the dancing duo will perform a Samba to Feels Like Home by Sigala, Fuse ODG, Sean Paul, Kent Jones.

Strictly Come Dancing continues on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One
