F1 news: Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel issued warning by team boss Sergio Marchionne

That’s what Ferrari chief Sergio Marchionne has warned after suggesting the Italian constructors delivered the goods for him this season.

Vettel ended the 2017 campaign second, 46 points adrift of champion Lewis Hamilton in the standings, as Mercedes continued their F1 dominance.

And that extended his run without a World Drivers’ Championship to four years, after he’d won the previous quartet of titles with Red Bull.

Marchionne has now suggested Vettel will return a different driver when the 2018 F1 campaign gets underway.

But he’s piled the pressure on the German to step up to the plate with Ferrari sufficiently playing their part.

"Sebastian Vettel is a guy who studies a lot, studies himself and is committed," explained Marchionne this week.

"Therefore, I think that we will see less of his emotional side. I think he has learned enough.

"Plus, there were plenty of opportunities for him to get annoyed, as he's had a couple of rather difficult seasons, this year and the previous one.

"I think we gave them [Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen] a great car in 2017 and so, from now on, it's down to him."

Vettel will be looking to get his 2018 F1 title challenge off to the best possible start at next March’s Australian Grand Prix.
