Millions of England fans are anxiously waiting for the nation's biggest football match in nearly 30 years this afternoon as kick off in the World Cup semi-final approaches.

But the interlude is just a nerve-wracking for football fans in Scotland, Wales and Ireland, many of which are increasingly fearful that football might be coming home.

Those living across the border from England to both the north and west have taken to social media to throw their support behind Croatia in tonight's crunch match.

One Scottish fan used post-it notes to give himself a tan replicating Croatia's checkerboard flag, while a Wales supporter defiantly plastered a Welsh flag on his desk at work.

However, it was not just the Scottish and Welsh willing England to fail, with those across the Irish Sea also keen to see Gareth Southgate's men come up short.

Irish spoilsports made their distaste known as they shared pictures of Croatia flags flying in the Republic of Ireland in the lead up to tonight's showdown.

Irish unionists were quick to pledge their support to the Croats, with one account posting picture of a pub called The Rock Off Sales proudly flying the Croatian flag alongside the Irish tricolor, following a similar stunt with the Swedish flag.

Some joked they had hedged their bets by purchasing both French and Belgian flags for 'every eventuality' while others complained they had 'had enough' of England fans' chants of 'it's coming home'.

England fans were quick to hit back against the naysayers, adding #AnyonebutEngland fans had already had to switch their allegiances several times due to them team's ongoing success.

Such is the support for Croatia in Scotland that many sports outlets across from Hadrian's Wall have sold out of the Croat football shirt.

The Nike store based in Glasgow city centre said it had been 'inundated' with requests for the shirt since Croatia was drawn against England at the weekend.
